June 5  National Trails Day Celebration (all day schedule at several locations) – Celebrate National Trails Day by getting out on a trail! Many guided hikes are offered throughout the day to lead you to discover the season’s wildflowers, butterflies, birds, and much more. It’s the perfect opportunity to walk our woods & wetlands and paddle on a “blue trail”. See the WNS calendar of events for times and locations. All hikes are Free; canoe trip is $15/person.

September 26   Wildlife in the City Paddle (2 p.m.) Join Canoe Evansville for an alternative look at Evansville, via Pigeon Creek. This safe-passage canoe trip takes you along the Pigeon Creek Greenway passage and into the heart of the city of Evansville. Learn about the geology, ecology, and the environmental implications of city water trails. Relax on this 5-mile trip, and find out how the Pigeon Creek corridor is an oasis of wildlife hidden to the public eye. Guided trips are offered throughout the season for ages 7 and up. September 28-October 1   Pioneer Days (9 a.m.- 2 p.m.) at the Wesselman Woods Nature Center. . School children step back in time to experience life lived by the pioneers in Indiana in the early 1800’s. The full day of pioneer period structures, demonstrations, and activities give a sample of what life was like for early settlers. Activities are educational and hands-on, and may include pioneer crafts, games, candle dipping, soapmaking, tanning, broom making, live animals, and much more. $6/child.

December 11   Reindeer Games w/Santa (1 p.m.—4 p.m.) at the Wesselman Woods Nature Center. Bring your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc., for a visit with Santa's buddy Wes (our raccoon mascot in Santa attire), and join in the reindeer games with holiday-themed crafts and activities. The kiddos will go on a Reindeer Riddles scavenger hunt, try their hand at the reindeer ring toss, make holiday crafts, cozy up for a Christmas story, get their picture taken with Santa Wes, and more. Reindeer Games with Santa Wes is for children of all ages and their parents too. The cost is only $4 per child. Please call to register.
